The Pillars outlined here reflect the current regional capacity and market demand, as well as a strategic decision to focus energies in those areas where there is the greatest potential to demonstrate national leadership.

The key strategy is for the region to stay focused and responsive to changing markets, new technology developments, and shifting political landscapes so that it is always operating in niche areas and from a position of strength. The foundation of core competencies integrates with the region’s natural assets to support research and business excellence in the pillars.

The Pillars are the primary activity areas; however other resource sectors in the region are also important and the CEE would be expected to take an interest in the development of these sectors (e.g. Onshore oil and gas, agrifoods, fisheries and marine).
